Key ADA Compliance Requirements

Ramps and Slopes: ADA-compliant ramps must have a maximum slope of 1:12 (8.33%) and include level landings at the top and bottom that are at least 60 inches long. Handrails are required on both sides if the rise exceeds 6 inches.
Sidewalks and Pathways: Accessible routes should be stable, firm, and slip-resistant. Sidewalks must be at least 36 inches wide, with passing spaces every 200 feet if the width is less than 60 inches.
Surface Level Changes: Changes in level up to 1/4 inch are permissible without treatment; between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch must be beveled with a slope no greater than 1:2.
Curb Ramps: Curb ramps must have a maximum slope of 1:12, be at least 36 inches wide, and include detectable warning surfaces to alert visually impaired individuals.
